[NEWS] The Growing Importance of Military Product Certification Amid Rising Military Tensions

As global geopolitical conditions become increasingly unstable, military tensions are rising. In this environment, the importance of military standard certification to ensure the reliability and stability of products used in military equipment is becoming more significant. In particular, electronic and mechanical components used in military systems must operate reliably even in extreme environments. Two of the most representative standards used to verify this are MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.

MIL-STD-810
Military equipment is operated in much harsher conditions than typical industrial products. Environmental factors such as extreme desert heat, freezing temperatures in polar regions, strong shock and vibration, humidity, and dust can all affect equipment performance. To evaluate whether equipment can operate reliably under these conditions, the United States Department of Defense established the testing standard MIL-STD-810.

MIL-STD-810 is a standard used to evaluate the environmental durability of military equipment. Its official title is Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests. It verifies the durability and reliability of equipment by simulating various environmental conditions such as temperature changes, shock, vibration, humidity, altitude, sand, and dust. Products that meet this standard are considered capable of maintaining high reliability even in real battlefield environments.

MIL-STD-461
Another important factor in military equipment is electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Modern military systems are composed of many electronic devices, and interference between these systems can lead to performance degradation or system malfunction. The standard applied to address these issues is MIL-STD-461.

MIL-STD-461 defines requirements for electromagnetic emissions (EMI) and electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) of military equipment. It ensures that equipment does not emit excessive electromagnetic interference while also maintaining stable operation in external electromagnetic environments. This standard is essential in environments where multiple military systems such as radar, communication equipment, and weapon systems operate simultaneously.

Experts note that as military tensions increase, the role of certification systems that ensure the performance and reliability of military equipment is becoming more important. Beyond simple technological competition, verifying that equipment can function reliably in real operational environments is directly connected to national security.

Amid growing emphasis on military standards, TBT’s TMS-20 series EO/IR (Electro-Optical and Infrared) camera equipment has drawn attention for obtaining both MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 certification. The TMS-20 series EO/IR cameras are key systems based on electro-optical and infrared technologies that enable target detection and surveillance both day and night, even in adverse weather conditions. They play an important role in surveillance, reconnaissance, and security missions.

In particular, the TMS-20 series EO/IR cameras have been verified through MIL-STD-810 testing to operate reliably under various environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, vibration, shock, and humidity. They also meet the requirements of MIL-STD-461, allowing them to maintain stable performance even in environments with electromagnetic interference. By securing these certifications, the system has demonstrated that it can perform reliable missions in a wide range of operational environments including deserts, maritime areas, and mountainous regions.

For companies participating in the defense industry, military standard certification is no longer simply an option but a necessary technological capability. Products that comply with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 can demonstrate reliability for military operational environments and are also used as important evaluation criteria in the international defense market.

As military technology becomes increasingly precise and electronically integrated, product certification and testing systems based on strict military standards are expected to continue playing a critical role in the defense industry.
